usage.: Some usage guides advise that apt followed by an infinitive should be used to mean only “inclined, disposed.” In fact, apt is standard in all varieties of speech and writing as a synonym for likely in suggesting probability without inclination: She is apt to arrive any time now.Hostilities are apt to break out soon.
