Soil at the experimental site was a Calcic Cambisol (14% sand, 26% silt, and 60% clay) with relatively low fertility according to the FAO/UNESCO Soil Classification (FAO/UNESCO 1993).

The study demonstrated that the species of Gomphonema found at the altiplano (region of plateau with average altitude of 4 000 m.a.s.l) lakes of Bolivia prefer calcic waters.

A middle ear high-resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) scan that was requested for confirmation revealed a hyperdense homogeneic mass of calcic tonality and bone density (1265 Hounsfield units) in the right middle ear at the level of the upper mesotympanum (Figures 2-5).

The arable soils of these EAs may be characterized by the WRB (1) principal qualifiers--rendzic/mollic/umbric, cambic, luvic, albic, glossic/retic, reductic, spodic, gleyic/stagnic, calcaric, fragic, skeletic, sapric/hemic, leptic, eutric/dystric and haplic and (2) supplementary qualifiers--arenic/loamic/clayic, humic, aric, drainic, abruptic/geoabruptic, cutanic and calcic (IUSS 2015).

Some of these horizons follow the criteria of the calcic horizon.

This soil showed lower expansion due to the difference of the mineral montmorillonite (calcic).

The experiments were done adding the calcic salt of the N-acetylcysteine (NAC-Ca) to the solvent or the calcium chloride (1 mol of Ca[Cl.sub.2]: 2 charged moles of NAC) to the nonsolvent (water + Pluronic F-127).

The Guvo soil series (n = 5) represents a calcic Aridisol formed at a mean annual temperature (MAT) of 21.7[degrees]C and a mean annual precipitation of 232 mm [yr.sup.-1].

The study by FARIA (2008) demonstrated that the crystal grains are richer in Na at their periphery and richer in Ca at the core, so the composition of the borders is albite (the sodic plagioclase), and the core is anorthite (the calcic plagioclase).

This positive feedback effect on perennial grasses appears to be critical on sites with shallow soils (due to bedrock or impermeable calcic horizons), such as on the Paint Gap Hills.
