(flo͝or′īt′) A mineral consisting of calcium fluoride. Fluorite occurs in many colors (especially yellow and purple), usually in crystals shaped like cubes or octahedrons, and is often fluorescent in ultraviolet light. It is the mineral used to represent a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale.
