[From Modern Greek gýros, a turning, gyro meat (partial loan translation of Turkish döner (kebap), turning (kebab), from the turning of the meat on a spit ), from Greek gūros, circle; perhaps akin to Armenian kor, bent, curved, and kuṙn, back (of the body).]
