PISI calls for DTI action on substandard

rebars) being sold in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
In a report to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Iron and Steel Institute (Pisi) claimed substandard
rebars are being sold in several hardware stores in Benguet, Mountain Province and Ifugao.
A group of steel industry leaders urged the Department of Industry (DTI) to file criminal charges against hardware store owners and local manufacturers found to be selling or producing substandard reinforcing steel bars (
rebars), in light of a construction boom ushered in by the government's 'Build, Build, Build' initiative.

Furthermore, Turkish producers are offering June shipment
rebars to Yemen at $720-725/mt CFR on theoretical weight basis, with an increase of $30/mt over last week.
"Strong demand for steel
rebars driven by steady construction activity will guarantee local producers continue to operate at full capacity," the firm said.
