On February 23 the world premiere of Arya, a new concerto for sitar and orchestra composed and performed by the award-winning young sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun, is accompanied by more works that fuse the western symphonic tradition with other cultures.

A Pakistani musician, composer and writer, Wajih ull Husnain Nizami is a classical Sitarist and upholds the tradition of sitar playing handed down to him through 18 generations of "Senia Gharana" after the name of "Mian Tan Sein Ji," the court musician of Mughal Emperor Akbar.

In between his readings, leading Sitarist of the country Ustad Nafees Khan played sitar, entertaining the audience with his music.

Wajih Nizami is a musician, composer and writer who plays Sitar and has been described as the most known contemporary Pakistani Musician, a brilliant performer and acclaimed as one of the most outstanding Sitar players of the country, Wajih is a classical Sitarist who is carrying legacy from his family that belongs to Senia Gharana after the name of Mian Tan Sein Ji.

This concert program will also feature a Grammy-nominated sitarist and composer Gaurav Mazumdar, one of the most versatile musicians of our time whose performances gather interest all over the world.

In 1999, Shamma performed with Pakistani sitarist Ashraf Khan, and in Spain in 2011, he shared the stage with sitarist Sharaf Khan and tabla player Shahbaz Hussein.

Young sitarist Turab Ali began proceedings with a memorable rendition.

The book is, in the words of eminent musicologist and sitarist Deepak Raja, "a rejection of the despair and cynicism that are endemic to our classical music community today"
