Saturday evening was as fine as was ever known, and the great body of holiday-makers laid out yesterday for visits to Mulgrave Woods, Robin Hood's Bay, Rig Mill, Runswick,
Staithes, and the various trips in the neighborhood of Whitby.
"I sailed out this evening, hired a boat at Brancaster
Staithe. The fellow wouldn't go anywhere near Market Burnham, though, and I'm rather sorry I tried to make him.
The "elderly" woman's body was found in the sea at the base of cliffs half a mile from
Staithes on Bank Holiday Monday.
Emergency crews raced to Seaton Garth in
Staithes, North Yorks, at 4.30pm after reports that a section of cliff had fallen at the seaside village's South Pier.
She had suffered the devastating injuries at Seaton Garth beach in
Staithes, near Whitby, just after 4pm.
The group, which included two boys aged nine and 11, had been out for a family walk between
Staithes and Skinningrove along the North Yorkshire coast when they realised they had been cut off by rising water.
In a statement, the
Staithes and Runswick RNLI said that one volunteer had swam ashore to ensure the family, from Birmingham, stayed above the rising tide.
It was in 1671 when there was first mention of a
staithes at Dunston, taking coal from the long-gone Ravensworth Colliery.

Staithes, which stands in the River Tyne at Gateshead, is open to the public this weekend, with the first visitors welcomed on Friday for tours.
