Amylenes
The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.
Amylenes
also pentenes (C5H10), unsaturated hydrocarbons of the olefin series. All six possible isomers are known:
CH3CH2CH2CH = CH2
C2H5CH = CHCH3 (cis and trans)
C2H5C(CH3) = CH2
CH3CH = C(CH3)2
(CH3)2CHCH = CH2
The products of cracked gasoline contain a mixture of isomeric amylenes. Industrial amylene boils at temperatures of 39°–40.5°C; its density is 650.9kg/m3. The polymers of amylene are used as lubricating oils, in printer’s ink, and so on.
