How to get live IRS agent
Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040
When you get to the point where the AI agent asks you what you need just say "I want to request and old tax form from 2020". That is all I did and I
got put in the que. You have to say something the AI can't do on its own and needs a live agent to handle.
Alternatively you can:
Select your language, pressing 1 for English or 2 for Spanish.
Press 2 for questions about your personal income taxes.
Press 1 for questions about a form already filed or a payment.
Press 3 for all other questions.
Press 2 for all other questions.
Make no entry when queried for the SSN.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Press 3 for all other questions.
How I got a live IRS agent on the phone
You should be in que to talk to a live person, agent, from the IRS now. I had to wait 15 minutes but that isn't so bad. To figure all this out
I spent 2 hours one day getting sent back to the main menu time and time again. I started to hate the AI so much. But now I had an epiphany and
said "I want to request my 2020 tax forms" and the AI agent said it could help me and I was thinking "OH NO" but it put me in the que to talk
to a live person.
But what if you don't want an old tax form. So what. I don't think the IRS agent knows why you are calling. Once they answer just tell them what
you want and get your needs handled and hang up. They are just doing a job. They don't care what you called for. They will ask you what you need
and just tell them what you want. You have a live person on the line so get your business handled. Be up front and just tell the IRS agent as simply as you can
what you want.
