nytimes wordle today tips
- Skip the four vowel openers. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO spend too many letters on vowels. Vowels are easier to place later. Consonants cut the list down faster. A good start has two vowels and three consonants, and the letters should be common ones.
- Open with a word that knocks out the most answers. Strong first guesses include TARES, SLATE, SALET, TRACE, and CRATE.
- Use the second guess to test new letters. Unless you are on hard mode, do not spend guess two placing the yellow and green letters. Play a new word full of common consonants you have not tried yet, such as C, H, M, P, D, and B.
- Watch where vowels and consonants usually sit. Vowels show up most in the second and fourth spots, as in a pattern like _A_E_. Test consonants at the start and the end. Y often sits in the fifth spot.
- Remember what Wordle leaves out. The answer almost never ends in a plural S, so a guess like CHIPS is usually wasted. If you are stuck between words that share an ending, such as IGHT or OUND, spend one guess on a word that tests several starting consonants at once. FLAME checks F, L, and M.
