a macrolide antibiotic, c₃₅ h₆₁ no₁₂, produced by a strain of the bacterium streptomyces antibioticus, which is active against a wide range of gram-positive bacteria and has been used as the phosphate in treating staphylococcal enteritis and skin infections.
