Mannans may be either glucomannans or galactomannans, both of which are hexosans. Glucomannans consist of glucose and mannose monomers with [beta]-1-4 linkages, whereas galactomannans comprise a backbone of 1-4-[beta]-linked mannose units with substitutions of [alpha]-1-6 galactose.
