Crafts (slojd [pronounced sloyd]) and DTE (Design and Technology Education or teknik) are two mandatory subjects in Swedish compulsory school.
Slojd has a rich tradition in the Swedish school system, whereas teknik has a less established tradition despite being introduced in the early 1980s and made mandatory for every child.
The overarching and grade level aims (goals) for Crafts (slojd) are listed in Table 1 (Skolverket: The Swedish National Agency for Education, 2018).

Unlike slojd, in the core content there is no mention of items like hand tools or how to safely use them.
Since slojd and teknik are mandatory, skills that are practiced in one area might carry over to other areas (e.g., how to safely use a saw in slojd may come in handy when designing a physical model in teknik).
Sometimes tools and machines are needed more frequently, especially when working with strength and construction lessons in both the teknik and slojd curricula.
