Meir Witchell holds that the infection character of laughter is due to the instantaneous fermentation of sputa diffused in a spray.
While most of the AFB seen in smears in countries endemic for tuberculosis are usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), there are other potentially pathogenic mycobacteria called non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) which may be present in a proportion of sputa. These mycobacteria include Mycobacterium species that are not members of the MTB complex and that can cause atypical mycobacterial infections.
The sputa of sputum smear negative cases were inoculated on Lowenstein-Jensen medium culture medium to isolate the organism and correlate the culture positivity and negativity in smear negative cases.
The interview revealed that quality of sputa is the top most reason for failure along with the fewer sample collection related to the barangay health worker's workload.
Results: Moraxella catarrhalis was isolated from 39 (5.02%) sputa of which 18 (46.15%) belonged to males.
